Written in 3rd person for my dropbox bio. I hope it doesn't sound too schmucky.
Nathan Bender is an Australian film director, writer and producer focusing on the action film genre. Born in 1987 he was introduced to the classic 80's action heroes such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan. This would have a lasting impact on his career, often paying homage to these films through dialogue, composition and action choreography. Starting in the backyard as most filmmakers, Nathan began filming crude martial arts fight scenes with frequent collaborator Corey Neville. After failing to submit any material to television or film festivals he was urged by his peers to study film and gain a deeper technical understanding of the film making process.
In 2012 Nathan was accepted into the SAE Institute to study a Bachelor in Film Production. It wasn't long before he began incorporating the skills he had learned in the backyard into his new films. His first short film produced at SAE (an martial arts/silent/comedy film about two men fighting over a twenty dollar bill) would set the tone of his future films from then on and cement his reputation as being a competent action filmmaker. The silent film entitled "Greed" would then go on to be accepted into the 2013 Sydney Underground Film Festival, where it recieved strong ovation from the audience as a welcome change to the archetypal art/drama genre films. During his studies he often helped out on other film sets as action choreographer, creating action scenes for his fellow students short films. Nathan graduated SAE Institute in early 2015 but not before making several action comedies - Load, Pickles, Sam and Dave and Sam and Dave 2 (later renamed Sam and Bozzy) Load would be his first foray into Gun Fu - A style of close quarters gunplay originated by Hong Kong filmmaker John Woo. Woo being a major influence on Nathan's work, gun fu would be a regular occurrence in Load and Sam and Bozzy.
Sam and Bozzy would prove to be his biggest action film to date, with nearly a month of pre-production, shot on RED RAW format, 300+ hours of editing, VFX and colour grading and a profession 5.1 surrounnd sound mix. The film tells the story of a daring rescue/one man assault on a heavily guarded mansion. A hitman fight his way through countless henchmen all the way to the villainous mob boss to save his best friend. During his filmmaking career Nathan has collaborated with fellow students, lecturers, teachers and actors on many short film projects. He continues to work freelance while writing new material and preparing his first feature length film.
